When a Photographer and Sound Engineer Make A video…
I love exploring the wilderness of New Zealand with my camera. The views and the wildlife are stunning and there are so many amazing things to capture. I love the whole atmosphere and the unique sounds that engross you in the whole environment.
That is why I feel super lucky to have met a fellow traveler at just the right time…
I was on another early morning shoot in the North Island of New Zealand. The location was the incredible and unique rock formations of the Putangirua pinnacles. As always , the place was amazing and I had it all to myself. Just me and the calming ambiance of the mountains and trees around. Quite often, I like it best that way.
But on this occasion, a french traveler stops by and we get talking. It turns out he is a sound engineer and I shared how I was a photographer. What followed was a super interesting discussion on the similarities of our crafts. How both of our art forms inspire us to see the world in a more meaningful way.
We then parted separate ways and I continued to capture video and photos of this amazing country and Martin captured the unique and vibrant sounds. A few short months later, an Idea for a cool collaboration was formed. What if we merged my video collection with his sounds to create one atmospheric and engrossing video to display the true feeling of what it is like to explore the wilderness of New Zealand.
The video above is the result. Video captured, edited and graded by me and sound recorded and mixed by my new friend, Martin Chartier of Dramatic Cat studios. I encourage you to take a break for 2 and a half minutes, put your sound up and really take in what it is to be in New Zealand’s nature.
